The Elgin Secret
At the heart of the Elgin Secret lies our unique terroir. The Elgin Valley is situated on an inland plateau, surrounded by mountains, only 10km from the Atlantic Ocean.
Vineyards benefit from high altitudes situated some 300 metres above sea level and more. Cold winters with abundant rainfall are followed by cool South Easterly sea breezes in the summer.
An endless series of rolling hills set in an undulating countryside present the perfect opportunities for vineyard site selection.
In keeping with an ethos of sustainable wine production, vines grow alongside pristine mountain fynbos in the Kogelberg Biosphere, a Unesco heritage site and part of the spectacular Cape Floral Kingdom.
This is a place where ripening occurs slowly.
Longer ripening produces grapes that hold a broad spectrum of flavours resulting in wines of character, defined by excellent purity and density of fruit, complexity and elegance.
Elgin is proof that all good things require a little patience.
